Baile Tusnad is situated in the valley of the Olt river, between Southern Harghita mountains and Puciosul (Ciumatul) volcanic massif, balneo-climateric health-resort at 650 m above sea level.
Accesspoints
Accessible through National Road no. 12 between Sfantu Gheorghe and Miercurea-Ciuc and railroad line 400, between Brasov and Ciceu.
Mineral waters
A total of 44 springs can be found, which from 6 are used currently, four of them (Stanescu, Apor, Ileana and Mikes springs) for external treatments (baths).

Tusnad Baths

General information

Town in the central-eastern part of Romania (Harghita country), on the Olt river, in the southernmost part of the Ciuc depression, elevation 656 m, 32 km S of Miercurea-Ciuc (seat of Harghita county); population 2,079 (July 1, 1991). Depression towered by harghita Mountains in NW and the Ciumatu Mare Massif in SE - volcanic mountains with fir and beech woods.
The Tusnad-Malnas gorges of the Olt, a highly ozoniferous air, the peace, comfort and treatment with mineral waters have turned the town into a fine resort and an ideal place for holidays in all seasons. Subalpine climate, of mountain depression, with cool summers (July average 17.5°C) and cold winters (January average - 7°C). The annual average temperature is of about 6°C. Moderate rainfall (600 - 700 mm annually). The mountains shield the resort against winds.

Treatment recommended

Allseason resort of national importance, with numerous mineral water springs (known since early in the 19th century, but used only since 1860) - bicarbonated, carbonated, chlorided, sodic, magnesian, ferruginous, calcic and mesothermal waters used in on outdoor pool. The resort is used in the treatment of disorders of the central nervous system (asthenic neurosis, secondary asthenic conditions, physical and intellectual strain), cardiovascular (myocardial infarction, higher blood pressure, peripheral arteriopathy, post-phlebitis conditions, varices), urinary system diseases (kidneu lithiasis, inflammations) and associated diseases (digestive, endocrine, gynecological, etc.).
Modern treatment facilities: baths with carbonated mineral waters, galvanic baths, parafin packing, electrotherapy equipment, gyms, a mofettle (natural emanations of carbon dioxide) with rooms for carbon dioxide bathing. A three hours' walk takes you to St. Ana Lake - the only volcanic lake in Romania, elevation 950 m.
